industrious me

12 mar 2012

i think i had a great start for this week. yesterday, sunday, i made pizza for my flatmates Sai, from india, and Chen and Lu from china. i also cleaned up and organised one of my drawers. this means much to me.

today, monday, i got up around 7.20am and did what i want to do, with no postponing:
- i went to gateley hall to collect a parcel. if we get anything in the mail which doesn't fit in our mailbox it is delivered to gateley, a sort of headquarters for our uni accommodation. it is only a five-minute walk from where i live;
- then, i walked back home to drop off parcel and got my mp3 player to take it with me and listen to laura marlin's music;
- on my way to avenue campus i met ines, who was with her daughter melissa. she gave me a lift to avenue and we chatted a bit;
- i left some of my bag weight in the office and headed to highfield campus to sort something out at the bank;
- after that, i went to nuffield theatre and bought tickets for the play 'mogadishu'.
- then, i passed by the uni clinic to book a blood test appointment for next monday.
- walked back fo avenue and have been working on my things since then. but first i had this nice cup of coffee with coffee mate.

i am glad and think i managed to do a lot in a short period of time. also, the walk has been nice. it is not so cold anymore around here. spring is around the corner.

cheers!

lava roupa todo dia, que alegria

19 june 2010
today i decided to stay home and put some order here after the many days i've been busy and with no chance whatsoever to tidy up the place. my plans now are to have a new start around here, getting rid of old papers and opening up spaces for my next steps in my research. i always start off by organizing the place. it does give me a better perspective in mind and i can definetely work better from there. actually, i believe the disposition of my belongings in my room tell a lot about my mind, i mean, of how much messed up or at peace it is.

for this reason, first thing in the morning i made myself a nice and fresh cup of coffee and had it with bread and butter. oh, and tasteless weight watchers cheese. it's simple stuff but i like it very much. i never have bread for breakfast during the week. with no exception for breakfast on weekdays i have cereal with milk, and yogurt if i have it, and fruits, if i have any. cereal with green tea. this is the perfect meal for good digestion throughout the day for me.

next, i did big time laundry, two loads, plus ten 'delicate' pieces that i hand washed right here in the room and hanged in the curtain mill. hehehe they look gorgeous there, don't they? washing up clothes and putting them away is always a powerful thing to make to me feel i am getting somewhere.

ready for the inspection

3 june 2010

today i will have a guest who's staying until saturday with me. karla is a student from the university of leeds and will come to the uni of southampton for her MA in applied linguistics. she already has the acceptance letter from the department and is coming now to visit the city and the uni premises and services.

well, last night, while i was vacuuming the room and 'hiding' stuff and putting some things away to both open space and to look a bit more organized i laughed thinking i was doing that in the same way i have done the cleaning up for the room inspection we have in the halls during school year. it was funny. i mean, i do clean up and organizer my room and i do like it, but not just now. in the end the room looks neat.

i'll pick karla up from the coach station at 6pm. she's traveling through london, where she changes buses. a looong trip, but much cheaper by coach than by plane or train.

another chilly day

8 may 2010

 i had plans to go to the library today, to be there and just cross the road for the theatre later on. well, i also needed to try some tidying up in the area here. i started off the day with for a nice one-hour gold run at the common while i was doing laundry; when i put the clothes in the dryer i left it here because to dry the time can be longer: 75 minutes. i love the days here, with new colours and the sounds of the birds, but it was very very cold. at first i thought of trying out to go very lightly dressed up, with one or two covers only. when i got there i was happy i was properly dressed to remain at the park for the time i wanted. chilly chilly common park.
back inside the house i organized the room, a little, i mean. this is always important to me, as it makes me see better the things around here and help me move on on on on, i.e., do the different, new things i have to do. i am happy i changed and washed all my bed sheets and got back a duvet i had already put away, thinking warm spring was on the way. spring yes, but not warm yet. i now sleep on winter pyjamas and have a bed sheet to cover me, plus two duvets. yes, they switched off the heater in the uni halls. i emailed them complaining about it this week. below is my contact with them. there is hope if next week it is still too cold to bear. i'll get ready to go to the theatre now.

Subject: heater
Hello,
I live in st margaret's. I understand spring is in the air, but still very and constantly cold. Could we please the heater switched back even if only for a few hours per day? It is particularly cold in the morning and in the night.
Thanks a lot,
Kalina

Hi,

Many thanks for your query about the heating. I'm afraid that the heating goes off this time of year in our halls every year. It was turned off when the weather was warmer, and I do appreciate that now it has got colder again. However, the weather forecast is set to improve at the start of next week so I'm sorry but the heating will not be turned on again. The heating in other halls is off at the moment or being turned off over the weekend so the situation is the same across other sites. However, if you feel next week that you are still cold, please let us know and we can review the situation.
Many thanks
